18-year-old shoots, kills Logan County stepfather: ‘I needed to cease him’

Aug. 31—An 18-year-old man advised Logan County sheriff’s deputies he shot and killed his stepfather Tuesday night time after the person threatened relations with a gun.

Lee R. Brokaw, 37, died within the capturing, Sheriff Randall Dodds mentioned.

A 911 caller at 10:37 p.m. reported a home incident involving somebody shot at 2681 Myrah Path, simply east of West Liberty, Dodds mentioned.

4 folks lived within the residence: Brokaw, his spouse, and Brokaw’s stepson and stepdaughter, ages 18 and 17, the sheriff mentioned.

Three surviving residents mentioned Brokaw pointed a gun on the stepsons.

Brokaw and his spouse struggled, and he dropped the gun, in response to the 911 name.

The stepson grabbed the gun and shot Broca.

“I needed to cease him,” the stepfather mentioned. “I needed to defend my household…you must perceive.”

No arrests have been made, Dodds mentioned, and the investigation is ongoing.

“We have got a number of work to do,” the sheriff mentioned, “on the floor, that appears to be what they mentioned.”

Brokers from the Ohio Bureau of Prison Investigation assisted on the scene and are working with Logan County deputies as they examine, Dodds mentioned.

Deputies have been to the residence not less than “a handful of instances” on earlier home calls and a few have concerned Brocka and complaints from neighbors.

Dodds mentioned the case will doubtless be reviewed by prosecutors as soon as investigators full their work.

“It is unhappy on all sides,” the sheriff mentioned. “My coronary heart breaks for that younger man when she calls in.”
